Explore a Little...

This past weekend, I was in New York and my friend said something that really stuck with me.

“Sometimes I get so consumed by school that I forget to explore”

This is something that I think a lot of us can relate to. Whether you’re a student or working, it’s so easy to get caught up in our work that we forget to take the time to relax and enjoy ourselves.

I’m guilty of this myself. Especially in today’s society where hustling and bustling is the norm, we put so much pressure on ourselves -- stressing about getting that A, landing an internship, and so much more. We find ourselves scrutinizing over every little thing in our lives, compare ourselves to others, and we become tunnel visioned.

At the end of the day, life is about being happy. We’re not going to remember that one stressful test, but instead, we’re going to look back at the moments spent with family and friends.

Yes, there will always be ups and downs in life and we still need to work hard to reach our goals, but every once in a while, remember to take a step back and go on a little adventure. We do our best work when we have a positive mind and getting out of our daily routine can help get the creative juices flowing!

Here are 3 things you can do next time you need to spice up your day to day.

1)    Have some “me” time

Every once in a while, we just need a break from everything in life. Whether it’s for a day or just a couple hours, carve out some time to do things you enjoy. Pick up a new hobby, pamper yourself, or anything else in between. Relax your mind and recharge for the week ahead.

2)    Try something new

Grab a friend and try that new restaurant you’ve been dying to go to or try out a new hiking trail. No more excuses and just go! Every town has its hidden gems, so slowly check them off your bucket list by making a commitment to yourself to try something new at the start of each month, giving yourself something to look forward to!

3)    Take a weekend getaway

Whether it’s a short road trip or a cross-country flight, sometimes we just need to get away. Leave your stresses behind and enjoy a different scene. Meet new people, enjoy the company you have, and have some late night conversations. Come back with an open-mind and feel inspired to get back to work.

It’s so important to get out of our bubble and refresh ourselves. Next time you’re feeling stressed or stuck in a rut, try doing one of these things and hopefully you’ll be more motivated to take on the world!

Comment below some of your favorite things to do when you need to destress!
